Healing Perspective and Conclusion
Overcoming Prejudice
If You Know You're Homosexual
|
You may be battling against homophobic prejudice, or
know someone who is (or who should be). These four directions
will help.
- Be educated about homosexuality. A good place
to start is with the 12 points in the "understanding"
section of this article. Then try actually listening to PWHT (person
with homosexual tendencies) for his or her perspective.
- Don't cave in to homophobia. Stand with
courage and integrity against "gay bashing," as much as you
would against any irrational fear -- i.e., criticism -- that leads to
hurting people.
- Thrive as a living example for God's Holy Spirit.
"The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality,
impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord,
jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and
envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before,
that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of
God.
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against
such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have
crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we
live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not
become conceited, provoking and envying each other (Galatians 5:19-26,
NIV, emphasis supplied).
- Demonstrate compassion -- Jesus' chief attribute.
Recognize that we're all sinners, all in desperate need of
forgiveness, all engaged in some type of need of forgiveness, all
engaged in some type of uphill struggle Remember the unforgiving
servant of Matthew 18. the PWHT is your brother, your sister. Look to
the cross, and show compassion. Look to the empty tomb, and shower
hope.
